Intro
PLASTIC creators DOUG WAGNER and DANIEL HILLYARD return with Eisner Award winner DAVE STEWART for an unsettling tale of psychopaths, sweet love, and a serial killer named Walter. When Walter’s best friend, the FBI agent charged with his capture, is kidnapped by a death cult of all-female sunflower farmers, Walter finds himself deep within an underground labyrinth filled with secrets and monsters…but are their monsters more horrific than his?
Writing
The first in a 6-part series from Image Comics. And what a first issue it is! This is a wild and weird story of cults, serial killers and everything in between. Doug Wagner is at his completely bonkers best and it makes for a fantastic read. I love how well Wagner captures the complete madness of Serial Killer character Walter. And I couldn’t help but grin from ear to ear as I greedily read through it, devouring every page. It’s difficult for me to put into words just how much I enjoyed this book. Put simply, you MUST read this!
Artwork
What isn’t there to love about this artwork? The level of detail by Daniel Hillyard is just sublime. If you look at how much work is put into each individual panel then you appreciate how talented Hillyard is. I kept finding myself re-examining each panel, just in case I missed something in the background, such is the level of detail. Add in a fantastic colour palette from Eisner Award winner Dave Stewart and it is a match made in heaven. The distinct colouring utilised only serves to emphasise the graphic nature of the story itself.
Overall
Did I mention how good this book is? It’s full marks across the board from me and this is my comic of the week. This is a must pick up! The writing of Wagner alongside the art team of Hillyard, Stewart and Dukeshire really is fantastic. I am loving a lot of what Image Comics have been publishing recently. And this ranks right up there with some of the best. I cannot wait for the next instalment of this amazing series.
